A hint of one of the days onboard a European river cruise
Indulge in a European river cruise to experience a unique travel style where you will unpack once and glide down the Rhine, Main and Danube at a gentle pace. Enjoy watching the world go by from the sun deck and savour delicious onboard meals. Discover what you could experience on day five of European Gems when your ship, a contemporary river ship, docks in Miltenberg.
7:30am
Awake to the relaxing views of the river through the French-style balcony window in your suite. Walk down the corridor to the dining room, where you can browse the extensive breakfast buffet and enjoy tea and coffee served at your table. There are always new daily specials to try, whether that be homemade pancakes or fresh regional sausages, and eggs made right in front of you by one of the onboard chefs. Some of your newfound friends are already up on deck, taking the opportunity to savour early risers’ pastries in the lounge from 6:30am each morning.
10:30am
On board the ship, Hans Ittig, a well-known glassblower from Wertheim, takes you through a demonstration of his spectacular artform. Delving into his past and love of glass making, he offers an insight into life in the southwestern region of Germany. His beautiful creations are the perfect gift to buy your loved ones, available to purchase after the presentation.
2:30pm
Lunch is served in the lounge with your choice of soups and warm dishes off the menu. Alternatively, fresh sandwiches and salads are available from the buffet. A selection of guests opts to visit McGeary’s Bar on board, preferring a more casual, pub-style lunch.
1:30pm
After docking in Miltenberg, the group divides. Some embark on a walking tour of the small Franconian town with a local tour guide. Others select to stay on board, enjoying riverbank views of the Main River from their panoramic windows. Perhaps you will choose to participate in an exclusive Insider Experience, getting a glimpse into local life as you are welcomed into the home of a friendly Miltenberg family. As you indulge in traditional cakes and coffee or tea prepared by your gracious hosts, learn about local life and exchange stories.
4pm
After reboarding your ship, set sail for Wurzburg as you relish the scenery that passes you by, accompanied by piano music and afternoon tea in the lounge.
6:45pm
Prior to your evening meal, everyone gathers in the lounge for a ‘Port Talk’ given by Barbara, your expert Tour Director. Barbara runs through tomorrow’s itinerary before you head down to the restaurant.
7pm
For dinner, a comprehensive menu invites you to choose from the chef’s selection of meals or mix and match your preferred options from the four-course menu. Your delicious dinner is served with complimentary wine, beer and soft drink. The wine selected each night changes based on the region you are sailing through.
9pm
Tonight, retire to the lounge to delight in live music from the onboard entertainers, a joyful way to end the day on your European river cruise.
